Elegy for my Tamagotchi
a poem by Katt Grover
the first time it happened I cried
just four days; an omen from your motherland
I killed you
I killed you long before
I killed you long before I ventured
I killed you long before I ventured into plants
when I forgot to take you to Dad's house at the weekendI returned to find your disembodied spirit
floating above a tiny grave
you died of sickness
you died of sickness
you died of starvation
you died in a pile of digital excrement
you died in a pile of digital excrement
you died in a pile of digital excrement
you died in a pile of digital excrement
sometimes you were alone
sometimes I observed
holding your hand
or holding a pillow over your face
depending on my mood
don't worry
don't worry
I would say
don't worry
I would say
you will be reborn again
don't worry
I would say
you will be reborn again
and you were
which in hindsight
which in hindsight
gave me unrealistic expectations about death
