Collaborative activity

who am I?

What is a refugee and why is it a crisis?

I'm Lusanna and I'm a Refugee!

This is Lusanna and she is 2 years old. She and her family left Venezuela to escape violence (Save the Children, 2024).

Helping Hands Collaborative Activity

  • Listen to the story, "Our World is a Family" (Ward & Warren, 2020). (Click)
  • After listening to the story, we will gather in a circle to discuss the issue of refugees. Teacher will ask quesions: "What are some ways we can help our friends who may be facing difficulties?" "Why is it important to be kind and helpful?" "How do you feel when you help someone?"
  • Students will decorate a hand cutout with pictures/words that represent ways they can help others.
  • We will assemble the hands on a poster and discuss the idea that everyone's efforts, no matter how small, can come together to make a big difference.

What is a refugee?

A refugee is someone who had to leave their country because it wasn't safe for them to stay there. They may of left because of things like war, danger, or not having enough food or water. Refugees often go to a new place where they hope to be safe and have a better life (Ward & Warren, 2020). Click here
