Electrons

  • Electrons are subatomic particles
  • They are 1 of the 3 particles that make up atoms
  • Mass: 9.11x10^-31 Kilograms
  • Charge: -1.6x10^19 Coulombs
Electrons
  • XNOR Gates (XOR + NOT)
  • NAND Gates (AND + NOT)
  • NOR Gates (OR + NOT
  • NOT Gates
  • XOR Gates
  • AND Gates
  • OR Gates

Logic Gates are electronic components that can be used to alter voltages and change outputs. There are seven Logic Gates that we have explored:

Electrical Formulae

In the S3 physics PBL for electricity, we have learn about 3 different formulae related to electricity and electrical circuits:
  • Resistors in Series: RT = R1 + R2 + …
(Total Resistance(Ω) = Resistor 1(Ω) + Resistor 2(Ω) + …)
  • Resistors in Parallel: 1/RT = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + …
(1/Total Resistance (Ω) = 1/Resistor 1(Ω) + 1/Resistor 2(Ω) + …)
  • Electrical Charge & Current: I = Qt
(Current(A) = Charge(C) x Time(s)

Use of Magnets in the Energy Sector

Magnets can help us generate energy by using them in motors that would help us to harness the power of renewable energies. In turbines, kinetic energy generated is converted to electrical energy from the interplay between two permanent magnets with reverse polarity.

BBC Micro Bits are small circuit boards that you can download code to for fun or educational purposes. Over the last few weeks, we have been coding these Micro Bits to detect an electrical current, and to detect power generated by a turbine. Coding is a big part of the energy sector, managing codes and algorithms that monitor energy fluctuations and energy profits
