Florida Cession
Florida had been occupied by Spain since the 1500's. Slaves from Georgia and North Carolina would often ran away to Florida. General Andrew Jackson invaded Florida as he was after a group of Seminoles Indians. The United States demanded Spain cede Florida after Spain had done nothing to control the Seminoles.

The admission of Texas into the United States caued tensions with Mexico. Mexico claimed the Texas border at the Nueces River while the United States claimed it to be the Rio Grande. President Polk accused Mexico of killing U.S citizens in this disputed terrority. This caused the Mexican American War. After about 2 years of fighting both agreed to sign a treaty. The treaty was the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

They try many times to become a part of the United States, but because of the slavery issue are not accepted. Texas is not annexated into the United States until 1845 becoming the 28th state.

This terrority was claim by both the United States and England. In 1818 they agreed to share control. First only mountain men explored the land looking for furs, but gradually more and more settlers for the U.S moved in. James K Polk ran for president on the promise of gaining the Oregon terrority. He was willing to fight for it. Britain in no mood to fight agreed to a compromise. The border would be settled at the 49th parrell.
