A SELF-MANAGEMENT LEARNING MODEL TO FOSTER THE INDEPENDENCE OF PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES

Aims of the project:

  1. To improve the key competences of people with intellectual disabilities necessary to be able to participate in self-management programmes and to achieve higher levels of independence and social inclusion.
  2. To improve the professional competences of the educators necessary to design self-management programmes.
  3. To improve the capacities of the organisations to be able to implement self-management programmesr programas de autogestión.

Project budget: 139.429€ Budget allocated for IVASS: 55.344€ Duration: 36 months (until December 2024).

Self-management programs

They are groups formed by adults with intellectual disabilities who meet regularly to:

  • Acquire Communication skills
  • Achieve a greater personal and social autonomy
  • Increase their possibilities to talk and decide by themselves
  • Learn to take decisions in their daily life
  • Debate about our own relevant issues
  • Be able to take part in the associated life

Metacognitive strategies

Development of Self-management programs from a metacognitive approach

SELF-IN INNOVATIVE APPROACH

“Competence to use our previous knowledge to plan a strategy to carry out a task, implement the necessary steps to solve a problem, reflect on the results obtained, and modify our approach when needed.”(Flavell, 1976)
