SPACEDrawn digitally on clipstudiopaint, made in 2022 for my first prompt in graphic design. The prompt was 'space,' we had to create something based on space whilst being inspired by the artist David Carson's use of words by incorperating the word in some way into our illustration. I really enjoyed drawing the fluid fabric shapes in this one, I like how they guide the eye around.
ROBOT CHARACTER OVERPAINTINGDrawn on paper and then overpainted digitally on clipstudiopaint, this is a version of one of my characters VHS. I drew this on paper, scanned it and then painted over it in clipstudiopaint. I stuck to green- greys throughout to compliment their muted green screen. I cleaned the edges by colour picking the canvas and carving out any places where the lineart or painting became too thick or blobby.
GRAPHIC DESIGN COMIC COVER DESIGNDrawn digitally on clipstudiopaint, an illustration for my comic ( and its accompanying publisher ) designing project, the two main figures in the cover being the main protagonists.I used a warmer palette for this illustration, creating the illusion they are somewhere hot like a desert and also making the whole peice tie together better, it also contrasts the greens in their clothing and helps make them pop out as the main focus.
ARTFIGHT SUBMISSIONDrawn digitally on clipstudiopaint, art for a artfight participator of their character and its alter ego. I kept to a strictly cool palette for this peice, the friendly looking side being lighter blues and teals and the darker side being closer to purple on the colour wheel, I did this to try to differenciate and create atmosphere with these two characters personalities.

DESIGN SHEETS OVERVIEWThese sheets were made around the middle of 2023 for the online event Artfight, where you submit a reference of each of your characters so members of the other team can draw them and earn points and you do the same to them in return. I labelled the main design points on each design and tried something new with the colour 'branches' I added off of the characters for easier representation of colour plotting and also for more convenient colour picking.

CHARACTER DESIGN SHEETS

SKETCHBOOK SPREADS OVERVIEW 1These spreads are from late 2022 to throughout 2023, made in my small red handheld sketchbooks I carry with me everywhere and scanned in. I like to use my sketchbook as a sort of journal alongside my drawings, sticking in things like receipts, bus tickets, labels, stickers, pictures etc to keep track of when things were made. I also handmake things to stick in like the lino print on the devil mascot page. As shown alot of what I draw in my sketchbook are my original characters, specifically Vhs and the different versions of them from the alternate universes me and my friends make.

SKETCHBOOK SPREADS OVERVIEW 2A continuation of overview 1: Most of these spreads are freehanded doodles in pen or pencil, alot of experimenting and messing around with different ideas. As you can probably tell I like the colour red so that appears quite heavily on most pages of these sketchbooks as the main colour besides black. I like freehanding alot because it allows mistakes I can learn from and also builds up my confidence in both muscle memory and line strength.

DESIGN REFERENCE SKETCHESTwo sketches of the same character i made when asked by a friend to sketch out a reference so they could draw them, these sketches have also been useful as not only reference to keep even my own drawings of them consistent but also allowed me to condense my design ideas instead of leaving them floating around. The top image is the character under the armour, mapping out their prosthetics and scarring. The second is their gear, which has evolved slightly since this starting idea but has been kept the same for the most part.
OVERPAINTING PROGRESS GIFIllustration before and after overpainting. I removed some of the cluttered design notes from the original sketch.
REDESIGN OUTFITS 1 & 2These are a redesign of my old character (top right) from 2019 which was a response to designing a character based on and incorperating the plant you got from an online quiz into a character. In the old design there is no contrast or design elements that to me stick out as linking to the plant besides the hands. In the new design I made her plus sized to compliment the round shapes of the bear paw plant she is based from and I also used a higher contrast palette.

PROGRESSION// SKETCHING

TV HEAD COSTUME: ARMThis is my handmade arm sleeve for my costume, it is made from a glove and old tights and the 'armour' pieces are made of foam and cardboard I spraypainted black and drybrushed with metallic paint for a scraped effect around the edges. There is an old wire sealed and glued under the foam pieces with hot glue.

TV HEAD COSTUMEThis is my handmade TV head costume, based off one of my own characters and made because I love TV heads and CRTs in general. I made the helmet, tailored the waistcoat and also made a robotic arm. I wore this costume to the doncaster dome convention with my friends in may of 2023.

COSTUME DESIGN

This box had a cut out shape in the lid which I glued a layer of clear plastic over and coloured to create a stained glass effect.
HANDPAINTED JEWELLERY BOXESThese are handpainted wooden jewellery boxes I have made as gifts, they are in a mostly semi realistic style which is different from my usual illustrations. I make these with acrylic paint and for some, fabric to line the inside.

PUBLISHER LOGO DEVELOPMENTThese are sheets from my development of my publisher for my graphic design comic project. I had to create a logo for the publisher 'Red comics' and wanted to play with the idea of it being based around comics / graphic novels with the staple red (RED comics) colouring. I chose this specific shade of red by collecting paint samples and then used my favourite shade from the selection throughout my designs.

COMIC CHARCTER DESIGN DEVELOPMENTThese are sheets from my development of my characters for my graphic design project 'Red comics.' I designed the girl (Meave) and her droid first and then made the robot guy (Mantis, named after his bug like appearance.) Mantis is designed in a more cartoon robot style, his joints and mechanisms very simplified in order for them to be easily redrawn across panels. They both have a design with alot of green, chosen to contrast the red colour palette of the rest of the comic and make them stand out as the protagonists.
