Who is David Fincher you ask? Today we're going to be taking a look at the world famous director David Fincher, and how he became who he is today.

The start of it all

at 2 years old Fincher moved away from home to San Anselmo, which would eventually lead him to become who he is today.When Fincher first got into film he was just 8 years old. after seing a documentary about the making of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid, it made him realise theres so much more to film making that meets the eye.

Fincher attended highschool in oregon, where he spent his afternoons after school directing plays and working on sets and lighting, a few years later Fincher became an assistant camera man and matte photographer at Indiustrial Light & Magic. A year later Fincher was offered the opportunity to direct a commercial for the American cancer society which ended up bringing him to LA later down the line.

The Breakthrough

At Propaganda films, Fincher directed many commercials. He eventually began to direct music videos including:Who Is It - Michael JacksonJanie's Got A Gun - AerosmithCradle of Love - Billy IdolExpress Yourself - MadonnaOh Father - MadonnaBad Girl - MadonnaVogue - Madonnaand thats just some of them.Over time Propaganda films became one of the best and most well known music video companies in America.In 1990, Fincher finally had his breakthrough when he was hired by 20th Century Fox to direct Alien 3 as a replacement for Vincent Ward.

David Fincher never attended film school, he just didn't see the point and considered all of the music videos and commercials he directed as a sort of film school itsself. Fincher named these filmmakers as his main insparations (including Martin Scorsese but he couldn't fit on the page).
