Topics for the Exam
PRONOUNS
We use pronouns to avoid repetition in a sentence. For example: Sarah is my best friend. Sarah is amazing. Sarah is my best friend. She is amazing
It sounds repetitive, so we change Sarah -> She.
We do the same in Spanish: Sarah es mi mejor amiga. Sarah es increíble. Sarah is my mejor amiga. Ella es increíble.
PRONOUNS IN SPANISH
VERB TO BE
We use verb BE to describe characteristics. In spanish the verb is SER and it is irregular. We must memorize it. In this unit we used it to describe people.
ADJECTIVES
We use the verb SER before the adjective.
Adjectives are describing words. We use them to describe nouns (things, people, places, objects, etc).
He is serious.
She is blonde.
Él es serio.
Ella es rubia.
serio = serious
Rubia = blond
CONCORDANCIA
There is something called "concordancia" (agreement in English). It means that in Spanish, we have to match the gender and number of nouns with adjectives.
They are serious.
They are blonde.
Ellos son serios.
Ellas son rubias.
Rubia = blond
Rubia = blond
CONCORDANCIA
To make the agreement in adjectives, we need to match GENDER AND NUMBER. We take as a base MASCULINE SINGULAR NOUNS (that finish in O)
For example: SERIO (which. means serious)
If the adjective ends in E, then we don't need to change it for masculine or singular. Fuerte = strong We add an S for plurals.Fuerte = fuertes
Describing personality
To describe personality, we use the verb SER and we add the adjective (please remember agreement)
Here you have some adjectives. You can find more in the next slide.
