Our Topic

What areas of cancer are we looking at?

We focused on 4 different types of cancer and aimed to highlight ways the community could identify it, raise awareness for it and get medical assistance. There are around 3 million people in the UK living with cancer and every 90 seconds someone is diagnosed with cancer. Around 268,000 people in the UK live with bowel cancer and 1 in every 10 women are diagnosed with breast cancer. These issues affect a lot of people and if gone unnoticed can have fatal consequences.

Our target audience

Young people - younger generation have become important in promoting health awareness, for their own benefit but also as advocates for the older generation. By recognizing the early signs of cancer, they can take charge of their own well-being and become a valuable source of support and advice for parents, grandparents, and the older community

Age and gender neutrality - targeting adults of all ages and both genders who are on social media. Anyone can be affected by cancer & we have tailored this page to the most common types of cancer in the uk.
Health consious individuals -people who are interested in maitaining a healthy lifestyle as lifestyle factors can influence the risk of getting either of these cancers.
Broader community - this includes people who have been affected by cancer such as survivors, caregivers and anyone interested in supporting cancer awareness. this creates a sense of community

Under represented people - ensure all individuals, including those within the disabled and LGBTQ communities who may not recieve recognition. It's important to us that people, regardless of their abilities or sexual orientation, feels seen, heard, and supported in their health journey

Present Work

We will showcase what we have achieved over the past month in raising awareness for our cause

13th December

Our Strategy

Our starting point was to split up the work. We had the Instagram & presentation team and the Youtube team. The first team was further split into groups of two, each focusing on a certain cancer and producing research as well as engaging Instagram posts. Beyond task delegation, we also tried to see what other pages in our field would post and improve based off what we had learned. We also aimed to appeal to different audiences by colour coding and making specific posts for members of the LGBTQ+ community

Reels

Whilst we are generally happy with our progress, we have noticed some interesting trends. Firstly, it is clear that reels have had a large impact on our page. They have brought in a lot of engagement and viewership despite being implemented so late. We also noticed that not many people are interacting with our stories, this tells us that a focus on video content may lead to more exposure to our page Finally, a large percentage of our audience are females, which is surprising. This may be due to females being more open about such issues compared to males.

The Content of our posts

Our posts can be split into three categories: (1) Informative posts - give the reader a nice breakdown of the risk factors, non-pharmaceutical measures and where they can find help. (2) Interactive posts - to get a response from the viewer and answer any questions they may have. (3) Support posts - allow those who need help to seek it through trusted providers

Youtube

We produced videos featuring a healthcare professional discussing prostate cancer, a bowel cancer patient sharing their journey, and a daughter reflecting on her mother's breast cancer diagnosis We tried to keep it short as that video format is easily consumable and the informative points come across easier.

Instagram Reels

these helped us to gain more exposure, we also uploaded these to our youtube channel

Here we speak to a fitness coach about men's health and Movember

In this clip we speak about breast cancer

Inclusivity

Involving members of all communities

Foreign Speakers

LGBTQ+

So far we had tried our best to engage both men and women in our posts, however it was also important to us to spread awareness to those in other communities such as those identifying as LGBTQ+, those who cannot speak English and those with learning disabilities.

Learning Disabilities

Feedback

What can we do to improve?

Posting more about the role of pharmacists in cancer. We realisd that whilst many of our posts were informative, they did not highlight the contribution of pharmacists

Spreading the word by placing posters around university. This allows others to share our page with family and friends who may need help

After our meeting on the 6/12/23, we implemented the relevant changes
