5 Easy steps to bake an amazing cake

Top Tip. Lay 2 thin (1” wide) strips of greaseproof in a cross under your greaseproof paper circle which run up the sides of your tin for easy cake removal.
Top Tip You could also add a layer of whipped cream to the middle or substitute the jam for lemon curd or similar.
Wash your hands Preheat your oven to 180°C or Gas Mark 4 Line your baking tins with greaseproof paper, cutting out a circle to fit the base of your tins.
Prepare Yourself
Divide the mixture evenly between the 2 cake tins and smooth out the top with the back of a spoon. Pop both tins into the oven and bake for 20-24 minutes until a skewer can be pulled out cleanly. Once baked – remove from oven and allow to cool completely
Into The Oven
Pick the cake which has the most even shape on the top to be your top cake. Spread a thick layer of Jam onto your bottom cake layerLay your top cake over the jam Sprinkle a light layer of caster sugar over the top of assembled cake
Assembly Time
Sift flour into bowl Add in all other dry ingredients Make a well in the center of the bowl Add in wet ingredients Mix thoroughly with either electric whisk or by hand
