Berlin Wall

The Berlin wall was commenced on August 13th 1961 by the Soviet controlled regime to help prevent the residents of East Berlin from escaping to West Berlin, which was controlled by the major Western Allied Powers. Anyone who tried crossing the wall would be shot on site.

East Berlin was occupied by the Soviet Union, which then rigidly installed a communist state in East Berlin. Because of this, there was many economic issues and social issues in the state. Many East Berlin residents did not want a communist economy, so they fled to West Berlin which was controlled by the Allied powers and presented much more appealing living conditions. So, the East Berlin residents began fleeing to the west. Because of this, the Soviet controlled East Berlin built a large wall to stop this from happening.
