Berlin Wall

Why was it built?

East Berlin was occupied by the Soviet Union, which then rigidly installed a communist state in East Berlin. Because of this, there was many economic issues and social issues in the state. So, the East Berlin residents began fleeing to the west. Because of this, the Soviet controlled East Berlin built a large wall to stop this from happening.
