Amb la creació del Bisbat d'Ègara, a partir de l'any 450, es va projectar un gran complex episcopal que va culminar la seva construcció al segle VI. Els edificis es van configurar a l'entorn d'un pati central. Santa Maria es va reformar i va convertir-se en una catedral de tres naus amb columnes i baptisteri als peus de l'edifici; es van construir l'església funerària de Sant Miquel i l'església parroquial de Sant Pere, de tres naus, transsepte i absis trilobulat, i la zona residencial del bisbe al sud del complexe. L'accés principal es va realitzar mitjançant un corredor funerari que tancava el conjunt a l'espai oest.
