How has climate change impacted this area?
Miami
Climate change in Miami poses economic challenges due to potential damage to infrastructure, increased insurance costs, and property devaluation. This, in turn, could lead to an eventual exodus of people from Miami, potentially increasing the population density of Florida and putting strain on its limited space. Additionally, the shifting precipitation patterns and saltwater intrusion impact water resources, affecting both supplies and industries, which, in turn, have broader economic implications for the entirety of Florida and the United States.
Climate change affects Earth on a global scale as it melts the polar ice caps thereby increasing the sea level. It also increases the chance of extreme weather events. This stems from a warmer atmosphere increasing the frequency and intensity of various extreme weather events. In addition it also increases ocean acidification making it harder for aquatic life to nurture and grow. Lastly, it affects agricultural productivity by altering growing seasons, precipitation patterns, and the prevalence of pests and diseases. This has global implications for food insecurity and increased vulnerability in regions dependent on agriculture.

Miami has elevated certain neighborhoods in addition too roads to combate King tides. In addition using the army corps of engineers they have installed sea walls and barriers. Lastly miami has made more green spaces that can collect water allowing for more retention ability from rain and flooding.
Miami has adopted a solar panel purchasing cooperative program. "Solar United Neighbors is a nonprofit that organizes the Miami Dade Solar Purchasing Cooperatives program. This program facilitates lower pricing through bulk purchasing of solar photovoltaic equipment and special contractor pricing."(Sustainable property improvements,2023). By doing so they are reducing their carbon footprint and lessening their impacts on climate change.
Due to climate change from various factors sea levels are rising. Due to this "exposure throughout the city is high and that readiness is concentrated near stormwater drainage systems, leading to high vulnerability along the coast." (Conyers,2019). The city is situated on a low-lying coastal area, making it particularly vulnerable. Leading to increased flooding, especially during high tides and storm events.

Venice, Italy, shares similarities with Miami in confronting the repercussions of rising sea levels, resulting in heightened instances of flooding. To counteract these challenges, Venice has undertaken significant initiatives, most notably the MOSE project. This project involves the installation of movable barriers strategically positioned to shield the city from elevated tides, serving as a proactive measure to mitigate the impacts of climate change and safeguard Venice's unique aquatic landscape.
The escalation of hurricanes and extreme weather events, fueled by climate change, poses a substantial risk to Miami. Such events have the potential to cause significant damage to infrastructure and endanger human lives. Impacting Miami both financially and well being of citizens.
