Events, Moments, & People Shaped My Experience
First off, it’s the understanding and support that comes from my professors; needed for my Lupus journey. Second, I had joined a support group outside of campus within the Lupus Foundation of America where we connect with others who faced similar challenges, especially, when delving into college life. Events like Sharkapalooza have shown solid proof that no one and nothing should get in the way of me living my best life and accomplishments I wish to achieve in the future.
WHENEVER I'M DEPRESSED...
This comes from the recent Spider-Verse film, which I LOVED. I watched with a friend I met during NSU orientation. This song really grabbed me because it shares a powerful message. Whenever I'm down, depressed and uninterested and put this on replay to be sure that I don't give up even when the day is stormy.
Happy Music
I first heard this song after my family celebrated me graduating from High School and getting accepted to NSU. I'm the first to graduate from High School and attend College.
“First” is Paris Merdelus’ Jukebox full of 4 different songs, specifically... ones that help her through her chronic fatigue autoimmune disease, especially as a student here at NSU. The perfect community possible to have sources and support to help through the process academically and mentally. But if that’s not enough, music! The best cure. These are just the top 4 that help throughout whatever emotion and even plays it during her studies.
Nostalgic Music
This particular day at NSU on my way to UNIV, I recently discover one of my doctors' deception and it brought me to tears. On the road back from class to home, this came on and brought me back to the moment I relapsed and went back to the hospital.
INSPIRED
YOU ALWAYS TRY TO FIND SOMEONE OUT THERE TO RELATE TO YOU, TO WHAT YOU'RE GOING THROUGH, AND THIS SONG HELPS ME TO REALIZE I'M NOT ALONE BECAUSE 1. THERE ARE OTHERS WITH LUPUS. SOURCES THAT HELP ME TO STRIVE THROUGH COLLEGE AS A LUPUS PATIENT, AND 2. BECAUSE LUPUS REMINDS ME OF THAT DAILY. IT'S A MONSTER THAT TRIES TO TEAR ME DOWN, AND IT'S UP TO ME TO BRING MYSELF BACK UP.
Failures
How they've been influential?
As much as I have succeeded in some departments, however, I also have experienced failures such as missing classes, having to delay assignments due to flare-ups and setbacks. They’ve taught me to not be afraid to reach out and ask for help. With a beautiful community like NSU, I was able to get the sources, support, and advise from the Disability Office and even from some of my professors.
