Air temperatures have risen about 1 degree inlast centuryThe warmer oceans around Hawaii have damaged coral reefs and increased ocean acidity Average precipitatio has decrased which reduces freshwater avalibility In the last 50 years, sea levels have risen which increases erosion and threats to coastal infrastructure
What is being done?
The Hawaii Grennhouse Gas Program was established to combat the threat of climate change and sea level rise.This program regulates emissions and aims to make Hawaii 100% carbon neutral and run on renewable energy Increasing carbon dioxide removal to aid in reduction of greenhouse gases
Climate Change Elsewhere
All coastal cities around the world are experiencing the same effects of climate change as Hawaii Some of these cities include Miami, New York City, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Shanghai, Lagos, and many more All are experiencing the effects of the rise in sea level, many of these cities are predicted to be under water in the next 25-50 years due to climate change.
- These cities experiencing climate change cause people to move elsewhere and increase population in cities that might not be able to handle the mass influx of residents
