How many different skin colors are there?
Why do we have different skin colors?
Celebrate Skin Color
Throughout history, groups of people have been categorized, judged, and discriminated against based on their skin color. Why? What does our skin color tell about who we are? Why do different people have different skin colors? And, most importantly, how can we demonstrate inclusiveness for people across the wide spectrum of skin colors?

Write your own poem: My skin is the color of _____________________________. I have hair that is like ______________________________. My eyes are as _________ as ________________________. I am _________________ and ___________________ because I am uniquely me!

REFLECT Choose one of the following prompts. Write a 3-5 sentence response in your composition book. 1. What can you do to be more inclusive of people with different skin colors? 2. Do you have any feelings related to your own skin color? 3. Do you feel like you have ever been treated differently because of your skin color?

THINK: What can you say or do if you see or hear someone being treated unfairly because of their skin color? PAIR: Tell your idea to your elbow partner, and listen to their idea. SHARE 1: You and your partner find another pair. Share your ideas with them, and listen to their ideas. SHARE 2: Your group of 4 needs to find another group of 4. Share your ideas and listen to theirs. SHARE 3: Be ready to share one idea with the whole class.
