Medi-Cal Share Of Cost
Healthy Families Premium
Other Health Insurance
Effective 07/01/2014, there will be some HN Medi-Cal members who have a remaining share of cost (SOC) with the State. The share of cost is a monthly balance paid by the member before HN will cover benefits. The member will need to pay for services at the point of sale (Dr’s office, pharmacy, etc.), until they have paid their SOC in full. All payments are applied against the SOC. The member is not viewed as eligible with HN’s plan until this share of cost is cleared.

Beginning in 2013, some members, through a previous program called Healthy Families, transitioned into Medi-Cal. This group has a monthly premium paid directly to Medi-Cal for Families. When a caller inquires on where to submit payment, refer them to (800) 880-5305.

Medi-Cal beneficiaries with other health insurance (OHI) must use their OHI first, as it becomes the primary coverage. Medi-Cal serves as secondary coverage and does not cover primary insurance deductibles or copays. Providers should bill OHI before Medi-Cal. If beneficiaries opt for services not covered by Medi-Cal, Medi-Cal is not responsible for those costs. Beneficiaries must report any changes in OHI status to their eligibility worker, social services office, and health plan.
