Here are a few safety tips when accepting telephone, text or verbal orders.
- Practice readback. After the provider states the order, read it back to them.
- Avoid using abbreviations in readback. Instead of LR, say lactated ringers.
- Avoid accepting these types of orders whenever possible and ask providers to enter orders into the EMR.
