The gospel of
John
John
Jesus returns to Cana in Galilee. In Capernaum, the son of a royal official was sick. When the royal official heard that Jesus was in Galilee, he made his way to Galilee and asked Jesus to heal his son who was near death. Jesus replied, "You people will not believe unless I perform signs and wonders for you to see." The royal official said to him, "Please sir, come heal my child before he dies." Then Jesus said to him, "You can go; your son is healed." The royal official believed what Jesus told him and made his way back home. As he left, his servants met him halfway and told him that his son would live. The royal official asked his servant when his son started to get better. They replied, "The sickness went away yesterday around 1 PM." The royal official then realized that was around the same time Jesus had told him that his son is healed. The royal official told his whole household what happened and they all came to believe. This was the second sign Jesus performed in Galilee. (John 4:46-54).
The royal Official
The "APpropriate Response"
Despite not seeing Jesus perform signs or miracles, the the royal official still asked Jesus to heal his son because the royal official knew Jesus was capable of such things. Then Jesus simple told him that his son will be ok which was enough for the royal official to start heading home. The royal official's response was an appropriate response to Jesus because the royal official did not need to physically see Jesus's power but instead believed and had faith in Jesus.
Response
Why the Royal Official?
Like the royal official, I had a loved one who was very sick. A few years ago, my cousin had stage three cancer and his doctor said that there was a very slim chance of my cousin recovering. This was a rough time for my family as we were all so close to each other. After two years in and out of the hospital for treatment, my cousin was deemed cancer free and is currently in his 6th year of remission. The story of the royal official appealed to me the most because I understand the pain and frustration of having a loved one being very sick.

Evaluation
Does this align with John's Point?
Although the story of the royal official is shorter than the other stories, I think it establishes what the author of John wants to achieve within this Gospel, which is to have people believe and have faith in Jesus. I can't think of any one who hasn't had a sick or injured loved one and experienced that same pain and hopelessness that the royal official felt. In fact it might have been that same painful and hopeless feeling that drew him to Jesus. Knowing Jesus's power and what he is capable of, gave the royal official hope that his son would get better, hence the royal official placing his faith in Jesus.
