Painting Engagement

the first encounter was much less "interactive" the NA's were reported to be very hesitant to approach and communicate with the settlers. however in this image the NA's and settlers are closer together.

it looks as though they were further in the woods but I feel like they would have been closer to shore or that there would have at least been sight of shore because they came off the ships and set up for thanksgiving.

the NA's look caught off guard to the settlers arrival, but this is supposed to be after Leonard Calvert sailed to meet with the Conoy Indian Chief and agreed upon peaceful interactions. but the NA's look frightened rather than prepared.
