Community Resources

  • Apply for SNAP benefits
  • You don't need to be a citizen of the U.S. to receive SNAP in WA state
  • You can get a WIC referral through your provider for formula, diapers, and some foods
  • Other community resources in King County are Salvation Army, and Living Well in Kent
  • They can provide more specialized items like highchairs and strollers upon request
  • BE PERSISTENT in pursuing these organizations - they can be very hard to get a hold of!

Climate Change

Effects on food insecurity
  • Excesssive heatwaves, coldsnaps and floods ruin farmers' crops.
  • Climate disasters such as hurricanes can disrupt agricultrural supply lines, interfering with delivery and preservation of harvested produce.
  • Extreme weather impairs agricultural workers' production.
    • Collectively, these changes negatively impact food supply, increasing food costs for consumers.
  • Increasing food costs increase the number of food insecure households.
