Learners can:
- appraise Poe's contributions to literature
- summarize the mood and setting of the poem
- interpret the symbols in the poem
- annotate unfamiliar words and designated passages within the poem
- establish connections from ideas within the poem to prior knowledge
- Distinguishing Between Poetry and Prose:
- Poetry is like a song with feelings, and prose is regular writing like stories or information.
- Analyzing Elements of a Poem:
- Poems are like word puzzles. Look at how they sound, the pictures they create, and the feelings they share.
- Identifying Rhyme Scheme in a Poetic Stanza:
- A stanza is like a paragraph in a poem. Rhyme scheme is like a pattern of rhyming words at the end of lines, like a secret code.
- Applying Literary Devices to Poetry:
- Literary devices are special tools in poetry, like spices in a recipe. Metaphors and similes make comparisons, and imagery paints pictures with words.
