According to the article, "The purpose of this paper is to highlight and examine public-library-based, online book clubs for preteens and teens'' (Scharber et al., pg. 176). The literature review in this study presents the minimal research that has been conducted on book clubs within public libraries. The evidence was clear and concise that there is a lack of book club opportunities in public libraries toward younger readers. This research goes hand in hand with the focus areas in this manuscript. Scharber specifically investigated two online book club studies by the Hennepin County Public Library. The findings suggested that public library- online book clubs create safe, engaging, and exciting learning opportunities for ALL learners. The authors state that, "Public library online book clubs are sites of possibility – a medium through which libraries can more readily encourage literate practices in the next generations'' (Scharber et al., pg. 188). This statement solidifies that if public libraries continue to implement online book clubs, they are truly amplifying the opportunity for positive outcomes of learning in the 21st century.

The findings within this manuscript prove both statistically and practically significant. It states that, "This manuscript grounds the concept of online book clubs in theory and research and details two online book clubs geared for preteens and teens offered through a metropolitan public library system" (Scharber et al., pg. 176). The practical relevance of the study is applied and implemented through the use of real-world situations by collecting data and illustrating how online book clubs have been proven successful and can be beneficial to all individuals with diverse needs. In his book, Neil J. Salkind states that, "the review of literature is a foundation upon which your work is based." So after reading the manuscript and analyzing the data being presented, other public librarians know the best ways to implement and create those same experiences for their patrons. What is the point in research if it isn't being supported with data? Statistics is crucial when it comes to facilitating and implementing new ideas. The results from this study definitely proves that it is statistically significant. The data from the qualitative study were retrieved by completing interviews and surveys. According to Creswell, "studies should display multiple perspectives from individuals and include diverse quotations and specific" (Creswell, 2023). The authors did a great job of doing just that. As a result, the data indicated that when implemented by public library programs, online book clubs can be significantly beneficial and effective for all types of learners.
