Themes and Topics

By Davarian L. Baldwin
Ignacio Moyano
I believe that Davarian L. Baldwin was more successful because of the quantity of evidence. He also maintained a broader topic of discussion which encompassed Richmond along with the other universities. It also gave more unique reasons for the displacement of poor people of color. His criticisms of universities also had a greater impact than the other article.
Mariah WilliamsShe speaks specifically on the effects of gentrification in Richmond and its historically black neighborhoods. She speaks on displacement caused by gentrification and the loss of history and culture. Davarian L. BrownHe speaks on gentrification in the United States caused specifically by the growth of universities. He speaks on the expansion of universities and the unfair advantages they hold within their cities. Unlike Mariah Williams, he does this through numbers and data to get a more powerful response.
Differences in themes and topics.
GentrificationGrowth Of Cities leads to the displacement of poor peopleRaceThe most prominent victim of displacement are people of color. This is a result of decades of inequity.SolutionsPolicy was the most forward solution in preventing displacement. This will be done by first giving the communities a voice infront of corporations and the government.
