- Papyrus was used for making paper.
- Hieroglyphic writing systems use drawings or symbols instead of alphabetic letters.
- The Egyptians invented papyrus, glass, and pyramids.
- The pyramids were created to serve as tombs for pharaohs.
- The Egyptians originally used a Lunar calendar, which was difficult to use because each year had a different number of days.
Kush
- Commerce is the buying and selling of goods and services.
- The Nile's cataracts made it difficult to travel by boat, which had a significant impact on Kush.
- Kush's greatest achievement is their writing system, known as Merotic Script.
- Kush did have a lasting impact and is best known for creating trade networks with Greece and other parts of Africa.
- At one point, Kush even conqured the powerful kingdom of Egypt!
- The Kushites accomplished many things, including the invention of one of the world's first alphabets and the development of Africa's first ironworking center!
- Meroe was eventually established as the capital of Kush because it was located near iron deposits and trade routes.

The source of the Nile River is the Blue and White Nile. The Nile River Valley was called "The Black Land" due to the yearly flooding of the Nile, which left behind rich and fertile soil that was ideal for farming.

Some of the more well known Egyptian gods are Amun-Ra, Isis, and Horus. The Pharaoh is believed to be the god Horus in human form, which means Pharaohs were considered powerful gods on earth.

Narmer was the legendary first king of united Egypt. He was the first king to unite both Upper and Lower Egypt, making an already powerful Egypt even more influential.

Lower on the pyramid was the merchants, followed by the farmers, and finally slaves.
The top of the social pyramid was reserved by the Pharaoh, followed by the priests, and then the scribes.

Egyptians went through a process known as mummification. They were then buried in a sarcophagus, which is made of limestone or granite. Egyptians took burial very seriously because they believed you took your body and other possessions in the afterlife with you.

The Book of the Dead was a guide to the afterlife for the souls of the dead. In order to overcome death, Egyptians believed that they needed to preserve the body for the afterlife. They accomplished this through a process called mummification.
