Go!

wow

Speaking to people involved/working at clubs within the lesser known sports in Scotland (i.e. not men's football and rugby) to have a look into the trials and tribulations of these teams with the potential challenges of budget limitations, low attendance numbers, and part-time players.

GENERAL IDEA/CONTEXT

Exploring the challenges of operating Scottish teams in minor sports.

TEN WORD DESCRIPTION

  • Speak to Sean Skelly (Head of Operations)
  • Begin with intro to the podcast, sport, team and guest for those who don't know
  • 10 quickfire questions to get to know a bit about the BTS running of the club
  • A few bigger questions (proudest moment in your sport, craziest story you can tell, etc.)
  • Same question to finish every episode: "What's your message to a new fan?"
  • Conclude with push to where to get tickets, where to follow the team on social media.

Basketball - Caledonia Gladiators

EPISODE 1 Running order

  • Women's Football - lining up an interview with player at Partick Thistle.
  • American Football
  • Baseball
  • Netball
  • Ice Hockey
  • Quidditch?????

Potential Sports:

EPISODEs 2 + 3

  • Sports fans - those intrigued in going beyond football (maybe through frustration)
  • Groundhoppers: "a hobby that involves attending matches at as many different stadiums or grounds as possible."
  • Glasgow-based people, because of guests
  • Fans of the teams - hoping for shares from teams/guests

Target audience

  • Sports Marketing Scotland Podcast (inactive)
Although it did have a focus on football, the podcast did feature guests from other sports including one of my guests, Sean Skelly, from within basketball. They explored the trials and tribulations of running a sports team, focused on the marketing side of things in particular.

Similar podcasts

Interviews ideally recorded at the home stadium/ground/office of each team. Other sections of the podcasts (intro, outro, context) recorded in COGC recording rooms. - Publishing a week apart each episode, roughly the same time/day. Keep consistency in terms of edit, description, music, etc.

production + Publication process

  • Reaching out to the clubs covered, guests interviewed, and those involved to share on their socials - with a particular focus on LinkedIn, considering the sports business element of the podcast.
  • My pages (LinkedIn, TikTok) which I'll be focusing on building in Sarah's class. I'd clip the podcasts into bitesize pieces of content (audio/video), to provide multiple posts for each guest interview.
