If you don't protect your computer properly when you're online,it's possible that personal deteails could be stolen or deleted without your knowledge

Why is internet safety important?

There are lots of impacts of not staying safe online. Here are a few of them:-- Cyberbullying (Bullying using digital technology) - Invasion of privacy - Identity theft - Seeing offensive images or messages - Grooming (when someone builds a relationship, trust and emotional connection with a child or young person so they can manipulate, exploit and abuse them)

IF SOMEONE'S IN IMMIDIATE DANGER CALL 999 AND INVOLVE THE POLICE

Tell someone. The most important thing to do is tell someone you trust what has happened.Report to CEOP. Contact a support service. Remember it's not your fault. If it's happening to you: Block the person who is contacting you.

What to do if you're worried about someone's safety online

IF YOU ARE IN IMMIDIATE DANGER CALL 999 AND INVOLVE THE POLICE

Talk to someone you trust like an adult, or you can always talk to a Childline counsellor Report bullying and abuse directly to the website or app Delete things you’ve shared that you’re worried about or find ways to hide them Tell the police by making a report to CEOP if someone is threatening or blackmailing you Plan for the future and change your privacy settings so it doesn’t happen again

Across the UK, no matter what county or country you're in you can report someone online for any crime they have commited by heading to www.police.uk/report-a-crime-incident

How to report someone online:

• Click on the link to your local police force website
• Go to the report online section
• For Dorset Police, it will ask you a series of questions (around 8)
• It will then ask you for some contact information (email,home address, phone number)
• Click 'report'
• The issue is now out of your control, please do not get involved under any circumstances and the police will be in contact around 3-5 days later.

Here's the steps:

• Call 999 and ask the operator for the police.
• Explain what's going on to the police.

• They will ask you for your location. If you don't know where you are give as much detail as possible. The police may also be able to track your location. If you have What3Words installed, open the app and tell the police operator the three worded code e.g jumping-squirrel-hedge. (what3words needs access to your phones location services in order to work and doesn't require WiFi.
• Stay on the phone with the police operator unless they tell you to hang up or you can no longer talk to them safely.
• If you can't talk to them safely just say 'can't talk' and they will ask you questions to answer with either: a cough, a tap on your device or like you're talking to a friend or family member.
• If phoning the police is too dangerous, call 999, and when asked which service you require, press 55. This will notify the operator that it's not safe to say the service aloud and will transfer you to the police.

How to report someone in immidiate danger to the police:

DO NOT INTERVENE IN ANY WAY WITH A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS PUTS YOU IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION. STAND BACK WITH PLENTY OF DISTANCE FROM THE SIUATIO AND CALL 999 - IF MULTIPLE 999 CALLS GO THROUGH TO THE POLICE, THEY WILL SEND MULTIPLE UNITS AND TREAT IT AS A 'THRAT TO LIFE' SCENARIO
