1 Collected from your home North East Lincolnshire Council collects any rubbish that goes in your green bins on alternative fortnightly collections. We collect an average of 72,000 households' waste from across the whole of the Borough.
2 Transforming waste into energy After emptying the bins into the lorries, the household rubbish is taken to the NEWLINCS Energy from the Waste facility. The waste is burnt in a combustor (a large oven) which releases ash and scrap metal - these can both be recycled. NewLincs processes around 56,000 tonnes of waste each year!
3 Supplying neighbouring factories The heat from the combustor heats the water in a boiler. The hot, high-pressure steam from the boiling water drives a turbine to generate electricity. The neighbouring factories are supplied with energy equivalent to the electricity used by 10,000 families.
