These ILOs provide a foundation for teaching essential math concepts to young students. The objectives can guide the development of lessons and activities to help students achieve these learning goals, building a strong mathematical foundation.
- Students will count from 1 to 100 (or beyond) both forwards and backwards, will understand the concept of one-to-one correspondence, matching each object counted to a number, and will count objects in a given set and recognize patterns in counting.
Addition: Students will add two single-digit numbers fluently. Subtraction: Students will subtract single-digit numbers fluently. Students will understand and apply basic strategies for addition and subtraction, such as counting on, making tens, and using number bonds.
Students will recognize and identify numbers from 1 to 20 in various fonts and forms (numerals, words, and representations) and will match spoken numbers with their corresponding written representations.
Students will recognize and understand the concept of place value for two-digit numbers, identifying tens and ones.
Students will understand and use standard units of measurement, such as inches, feet, and centimeters.
Students will understand the concept of time, including the sequence of events in a day (morning, afternoon, evening). Students will recognize and tell time on both digital and analog clocks, understanding hours.
Students will recognize and understand the concept of place value for two-digit numbers, identifying tens and ones.
