What is the Science of Reading?

Decades of research about how to effectively teach early readers how to read. It debunks what methods works and what methods are inefficient.

Words that do NOT follow the general rules of English and must be memorized in how to read and/or spell. Examples: does, was, done, move, of

Words that early readers will see very often and may need help reading if they have not been taught the prerequisite phonics skills. Examples: like, mom, am, is, in, at

Words that early readers memorize after repeatedly reading it. ALL words become sight words as a natural process of building "orthographic memory."
