These online tests are designed to offer students the opportunity to test their academic skills and to reinforce educational standards. Each of the listed academic subjects will be a 30 minute online multiple choice test to be taken during a designated testing window prior to convention. Language Arts will have 45 minutes. A club may enter one student in each grade level per content area. A student may take only one Academic test to include Creative Writing, Poetry and Beta Spelling Bee. Time limit: 30 Minutes with the exception of Language Arts which will have 45 minutes. Areas of Academics Tested Language Arts Math Science Social Studies Spanish

The Book Battle competition is a literature-driven, online multiple choice test based on the books listed. This competition provides an opportunity for a group of three students to use an integrated study of novels to collaborate as they participate in this competition. Students will have thirty minutes to complete the test. A link to the test will be sent to registered club sponsors. Time limit: 30 Minutes

The Creative Writing competition provides an opportunity for a student to use creative details through written expression as he/she interprets the prompt. A club may have only one entry. A student may take only one Academic test to include Creative Writing, Poetry and Beta Spelling Bee. Time Limit: 90 Minutes

The Poetry competition provides an opportunity for a student to use creative details and poetic devices through written expression as he/she interprets the that will be given at the beginning of the competition. A club may have only one entry. A student may take only one Academic test to include Creative Writing, Poetry and Beta Spelling Bee.
quiz bowl
Quiz Bowl is a general knowledge competition which stresses quick recall. The competition is designed for a team of four students to participate in a collaborative effort in various levels of difficulty that range from trivial to highly technical information. For the online multiple choice test, teams will be given one hour to work collaboratively. A link to the test will be sent to registered club sponsors. A club may have only one entry. Written Test Guidelines - Online Competition Only Time Limit: 60 Minutes Each four member team will collaboratively take an online multiple choice test with a time limit of 60 minutes. Completion time of the test will be recorded. In case of a tie, the team that finished first will be the winner. The four members that take the written test must be the same members that participate in the oral rounds. The top eight teams will advance to the oral rounds. Oral rounds will ONLY be conducted at onsite conventions.

The Technology competition is a club project designed to encourage students to use technology to create a movie that adheres to the interpretation of the prompt. In this process, the students will increase knowledge and gain proficiency in the technological platform of their choice to create a movie. The entry should demonstrate innovation, creativity, as well as communicate the concept of the prompt. A club may have only one entry.
musicology
Musicology is a general knowledge music competition that uses questions and videos that cover various aspects and genres of music. The competition is designed for a team of four students to participate and stresses collaboration and quick recall. spelling bee
The Beta Spelling Bee is a competition designed for one student from a club to compete in by completing an online multiple choice spelling test. The Top 8 individuals will advance to the oral rounds. The online test, as well as the oral rounds, will require the student to spell a broad selection of words, usually with a varying degree of difficulty. A student may take only one Academic test to include Creative Writing, Poetry and Beta Spelling Bee. Written Test Guidelines - Online Competition Only Time Limit: 30 Minutes One member from a club will take an online multiple-choice test with a time limit of thirty minutes. Completion time of the test will be recorded. In case of a tie, the student that finished first will be the winner. The member that takes the written test should be the same member that participates in the oral rounds. The top eight individuals will advance to the oral rounds. Oral rounds will ONLY be conducted at onsite conventions. We hold all parties responsible for the integrity of the testing environment. No consultation is allowed during the testing time. Supervision by school personnel is strongly recommended during all testing sessions.
Accesorized Design
The Accessorized Design competition allows each club to submit one club-designed accessory depicting the 2023-2024 Theme - Beta: A Voyage of Adventure. This competition is designed to encourage creativity, innovation, interpretation of theme and artistic design. A club may only have one entry.
Apparel Design
The Apparel Design competition allows each club to submit one club-designed piece of apparel depicting the 2023 - 2024 Theme - Beta: A Voyage of Adventure. This competition is designed to encourage creativity, innovation, interpretation of theme, and artistic design. A club may only have one entry.
Club Trading Pin
Club Trading Pin is a fun and innovative way to represent your club’s achievement, character, and leadership. Likewise, the Club Trading Pin can uniquely share more about your club and it’s service. This competition is open to all clubs. Be creative and submit your one-of-a-kind Club Trading Pin for judging. During the award presentation, plaques will be awarded to the top Club Trading Pin entries.
Digital portfolio
The Digital Portfolio competition showcases the club’s experiences from the time span of state convention to state convention using a digital form such as, but not limited to a computer, tablet, iPad or image sharing platform. This is a way to record each Beta Club’s service, membership, and activities for the school year - the time between conventions. This competition is designed to encourage club pride, creativity and innovation, interpretation of a theme, and artistic design.
engineering
The Engineering competition is designed for a team of three to five students to use innovative problem solving techniques and engineering concepts. Teams will use items from a specified list and will be required to interact with judges during the competition. A club may have only one entry. **Time Limit: 45 Minutes **
Marketing and communication
The Marketing and Communications competition allows three to five students to demonstrate creativity, communication skills, and marketing strategies. The campaign should exhibit the team’s ability to collaborate, problem solve and think critically to develop an effective presentation. A club may have only one entry. Time Limit: 2 Minutes
living literature
The Living Literature competition provides an opportunity for students to present an interpretation of a scene from a work of literature. Students should choose a scene and characters from any form of literature, including but not limited to, a novel, short story, poem, or play. Students recreate the scene through costumes, scenery, and props. Essentially, students become “wax museum figures” depicting the scene. A club may have only one entry.
robotics
The Robotics Showcase is a team event. Teams of four to eight members will design, program, construct, and implement their robot in order to address the 2023-2024 Robotics Challenge: Sort, Move, Stack. Teams will bring preconstructed robots and props to showcase their interpretation of the challenge having incorporated skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. A club may have only one entry.
servivce learning
The Service Learning Showcase competition allows each club to submit one, free-standing trifold board made of cardboard that features the club’s service projects from throughout the year. This competition is designed to showcase service learning, creativity, innovation, and artistic design. A club may have only one entry.
speech
The Speech competition is designed to allow students the opportunity to gain speaking experience, as well as increase his/her confidence level in public speaking. Speeches may be one to two minutes in length. A club may have only one entry. JUNIOR TOPIC - Navigating my Future with Beta Time Limit: 1-2 Minutes
scrapbook
The Scrapbook competition showcases the club’s experiences from the time span of state convention to state convention. It is a collection of photographs, newspaper articles, media post, correspondence, and memorabilia displayed in an album, journal or book. This is a way to record each Beta Club’s service, membership, and activities for the school year - from state convention to state convention. This competition is designed to encourage club pride, creativity and innovation, interpretation of a theme, and artistic design.
Everyone must have a certain number of service hours to go to the state competition.
