WHAT IS IT AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

RTI AT NEW LANE

Genially

"THE SECRET TO CHANGE IS TO FOCUS ALL OF YOUR ENERGY, NOT ON FIGHTING THE OLD BUT ON BUILDING THE NEW."SOCRATES

Response to Intervention (RTI) is a method of academic and behavioral intervention used to provide early, systematic assistance to children who are having difficulty learning or functioning in the general education classroom. RTI seeks to prevent academic failure through early intervention, frequent progress monitoring, and increasingly intensive research-based instructional interventions for children who continue to have difficulty. (Addition to IDEA Law, 2004)

WHAT IS RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION?

It is critical that educators view RTI as a school-wide, multi-tiered prevention/intervention approach aimed at meeting the academic needs of ALL students, not just a part of the identification process for special education service as referenced in IDEA 2004.This law requires that students receive scientifically researched based instruction and interventions before special education referrals can be made.

Importance of the RTI model

3 Tier Intervention Model

INTENSIVE INTERVENTION: STUDENTS WHOSE INTERVENTION NEEDS ARE GREATER THAN GENERAL EDUCATION CAN MEET. THIS IS DETERMINED AFTER TIER 2 INTERVENTIONS ARE IMPLEMENTED, REVIEWED AND HAVE BEEN DETERMINED INEFFECTIVE.

TIER 3 (5%)

INDIVIDUALIZED INTERVENTIONS: STUDENTS WHO NEED ADDITIONAL SUPPORT BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT MAKING PROGRESS AFTER CLASSROOM INTERVENTIONS HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED.

TIER 2 (15%)

CLASSROOM INTERVENTIONS: AVAILABLE TO ALL STUDENTS. THESE STUDENTS SHOULD BE IN GENERAL EDUCATION CLASSES AND RECEVING CORE INSTRUCTION WITH CLASSROOM INTERVENTIONS TARGETING WEAK AREAS.

MATH iREADY DATA

  • Referrals can be made for academic, behavior, attendance
  • Before an SST meeting can be scheduled the teacher must complete a data meeting request form and see Linda to schedule a meeting
  • The data meeting can be scheduled on the 1st and 2nd Friday of the month.
  • They will be no longer than 15 minutes.
  • You must bring measureable data to reflect lack of progress in the classroom. Ex, iReady data, evidence of small group instruction (frequency/duration), Rigby, math informal/formal assessments.
  • There needs to be measureable data that shows a lack of progress.
  • The data should show a comparison to where they were before the intervention and where they are now.
  • An SST form will be given to the teacher to complete.

DATA MEETING DATES

They have AIS binders that were created to document this service. Their work is 100% directed by you.

When a teaching assistant is in your classroom their sole purpose is to deliver small group instruction. This is an intervention and can be used for measurable data.

TEACHING ASSISTANTS

  • small group instruction
  • behavior charts
  • guided reading
  • sight word flash cards
  • multiplication flash cards
  • math manipulatives

YOU ARE PROBABLY ALREADY DOING IT!
