More than 500 years ago, a very important sailor -you may have known his name before, Christopher Columbus- with the help of the kings of Spain, led a long trip by ship with the promise of reaching India by a new, shorter route. What this sailor didn't know is that on his way, he would find a huge continent where numerous peoples lived: this continent was what we know today as America.
Why October 12th ?
On October 12th, 1492, the Spaniards "discovered" the inhabitants of lands previously unknown to them, America. But, at the same time that the Spaniards "discovered" the indigenous people, the indigenous people "discovered" the Spaniards. It was the meeting of two worlds.
Why October 12th ?
That is why on October 12th, we do not only celebrate our national day, but also the cultural richness of Spanish, the language of an entire continent.
