What is Social-emotional learning?
The process through which children gain the information, attitudes, and abilities to understand their emotions, express caring concerns for others, develop meaningful connections, make responsible decisions, and handle interpersonal situations is known as social and emotional learning. SEL is important to students in my classroom because it improves academic skills, decreases depression, improves stress managment, and increased likelihood of future success.

What does the Research say about SEL?
"Social-emotional skills also help kids successfully manage everyday life"
To help promote SEL in a student's everyday lifestyle here are some examples:
- For Parents: give your child responsiblities, allow them to make choices, and show appreciation to your child.
- For Teachers: give out classroom jobs, try teamwork activites, read books about social and emotional learning, and build a realtionship with your student by doing a classroom greeting.
- At Princeton ISD, there has been an increased of atleast 900 students (and increasing) a year attending our district. This means, more diversity among our students from pre-k to secondary education.
- SEL is beneficial for schools and teachers because it also improves their mental health, reduces burnout, better workplace enviroment, higher academic results from students, and better descion-making.
- For students, SEL is beneficial because it helps decrease mental health concerns, teaches empathy, making good decsions, maintain positive relationships, and understand their own emotions.
