The Black Power Movement started right after Martin Luther King's death. This movement was almost the exact opposite of what MLK preached in his peaceful movement. In this movement blacks responded to violence with violence. Blacks that didn't support this movement were ridiculed, and not respected. Yet, this movement had one similarity with MLK's peaceful civil disobedience movement: a thirst for equallness to blacks and white.

During the protests in Birmingham, violence by police officers was very heavy. Many people were arrested while protesting. Police dogs were brought out to help with arresting the protesters making a total of 3,400 people thrown and locked away. Once protesters had thought it wasn't worth it to keep going MLK brought in children to help protest. The thought of bringing kids into the protests was to stop the violence. People thought nobody would hurt a child right?

The Selma marches happened to bring attention to equal voting rights, since Southerners were making it very difficult for blacks to vote. There were 3 Selma marches led by Martin Luther King. The first one ended with violence towards the protesters. The second was stopped by the government. The third one was protected by the government. This marches led to succer, since shortly a law was passed prohibiting southerners to stop blacks from voting.
