After the colonists become independent, the Treaty of Paris is passed, and US boundaries are expanded. Britain and the US agree to pay back any debt from before the war, and return slaves/property.
This took place in 1781 when Washington and Rochambeau marched to Virginia, with the help of the French, trapped Cornwallis from escaping. They did this in Yorktown, which was a peninusla, and one month later the British surrendered.
George Washington kept the troops in Valley Forge during the winter, however many died due to the harsh conditions. This is also when foreigners like Lafayette and Steuben helped train troops with basic militaty skills.
At this point in the Revolution, the Patriots are struggling. However, this particualr battle bacame a MAJOR turning point, and with the help of the French, the colonists won.
