The slema marches started on march 7, 1965, and in toltal, there were three selma marchs in total, all of them with the goal of equal voting rights in the U.S. During the 1st march, people were met with violence from police officers and white citizens. The second march, which occered on March 9th, 1965, was lead by Martin Luther King JR but it ended abruptly due to a barricade by police officers. The 3rd march started on 21st, 1965, and ended on the 25th. before this march began, main leaders seeked help from goverment officals for a leagle way to do this so they don't get arrested. It worked and the people who started the march, 2,000 people with 1,000 people protecting them, walked 54 miles and ended the march with 30,000 people who joined them.

The greensboro sit-in started on the first of february, in North Carolina Greensboro, when four students sat down at a white only counter and refused to give up their seats until they were served or taken away from the police by force. The goal of these four students was to start a non-violent act to be able to eat where ever they pleased. So after the first day of the sit-in, more and more people started to come to join or see what was going on, by the second day there was alreay 24 people doing the sit-in! And by the 5th day there was more than 300 people doing it. Bu this was only in greensboro, after the 3rd sit in, people around the south started doing it all over! And after a long 5 months, the owners had lost so much money by not serving them that they had to or else they would go out of bissuness. This also led to intergration in meny stores and resturants in the south.

MLK was just another guy who supported the non violent racial war bettween blacks and whites. another thing to note was that he only supported the non violent way, things that got voilot on the black peoples part was somthing he was not interested in. This is where things take a tur, after the bus boy cott, MLK was made a hero and a leader of these non violent protests battling segragation. So in 1965 he helped orginised the Selma marches and they won using a non voilent way of action. Sure these things were all good and well for black people, but the whites were done dealing with this and one of them decided to take action. So on april 4th, 1968, in memphis tennisie, in the Lorraine Motel, Room 306 balcony, MLK got shot and he died. He was 39.

The selma marches was by far the biggest this that MLK did for his protests. Of course you cant forget about his very well spoken and well worded speachs too.
This picture was taken after Martin Luther King had his most famous speach at the lincon memorial, "I have a dream..."
