King specifically did his speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial. One of the main reasons was because Lincoln was the president who ended slavery. Martin also picked this spot because of the power in the nation's capital that was created while speaking.
On August 28, 1963 Martin Luther King Jr lead thousands of people to the center of Washington D.C. When delivering his speech the crowd was silent besides a few people cheering. But the second he ended the crowd erupted in enthusiasm towards his ideas. This artifact shows how many people followed his ideas and how he influenced so strong.
Before delivering the " I Have a Dream " speech MLK lead a protest through Washington D.C. in his common peaceful. manner. When doing this he led the protest as they walked the streets with signs full of sayings about segregation wrong doings.

Selma Marches
In Selma, Alabama there were marches that were faced with terror. Met with this challenge didn't stop the protests leading through 80 cities. These protests were for the Voting Rights of All Citzens, specifically African Americans. These protests were so powerful and meaningful that after President Johnson issued troops to wall off the protests, protestors turned around. During these protests there were beating with bats, bike chians, fire, water hoses, and even tear gas.

The Selma Marches had a very famous bridge called the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Every year many join together to celebrate and remember what happened here on March 9th, 1965.
On March 9, 1965 the protestors were met with a wall of soldiers. Instead of standing there or giving up MLK turned them around and continued the march.
When marching some protestors were assaulted by arm soldiers with bike chains, bats, and tear gas. This didn't stop them from protesting. This perserverance led to African Americans getting voting rights,

Birmingham and ChildrenMarches
Birmingham is a city in Alabama deemed the most segregated city at that time. MLK and his fllowers took on the challenge. When protesting many were being arrested including King. This led to the idea of having children march that was they couldn't be arrested. While this was happening 1,000 children were arrested. This went across the country as people watched in terror. In the end this did end up working but throught many were arrested and Kings church and home was bombed. In all the town was desgragated.
Artifacts
During the marches mnay people were arrested. The protestors had lost so many people that were now in jail so they asked for kids to protest since they can't be arrested. This didn't work though, over 1,000 children in jail. After the children protested president JFK sent troops down to Birmingham.
When practicing his philosiphy he used a church. This was a main point of where he spoke as he did every sunday. During the marches, it was bombed as long with his house. This was a big set back but didn't stop him. Then doing his speechs in the streets of Alabama.
When in jail MLK wrote a note about how segregation should be illegal. After getting out of jail he spoke his letter which in the end lead to the 24th Amendment. This amendment ended segregation making it illegal.
