I have a dream

Little Rock Nine was a significant movement for the education of blacks. In Little Rock Arkansas there were 2 schools one for blacks and one for whites. When the government said that all schools had to be integrated. This was a problem because many blacks and whites wanted not to be integrated, but many did. When they sent 9 students to the white school to test the integration. There were many problems like violence, and cruelty and they even closed down the school for a whole year. But the Little Rock 9 kept going and it was a huge step for blacks. But Little Rock 9 was not fully integrated until 1971.

A big step for blacks was the Legislation. In the South one of the most important moves was the laws and amenities. This made it so that even if people disagreed with them they could not go against it. There was the 24th Amendment, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. All of these pieces of legislation helped them get equal rights and treatment.

March on Washington

March on Washington

On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr, held a speech to protest for jobs and freedom at the Lincoln Memorial. This was very important for blacks. It also gave support for many laws. 250,000 people showed up. It Inspired many other marches and protests. Martin Luther King also led protests in non-violent ways.

Voting Rights Act of 1965

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was like an add-on to The 24th Amendment. It got rid of literacy and other obstacles preventing blacks to vote.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 stated that said that it banned discrimination by race, sex, color, or national origin. So that will give them more opportunities in work, school and more.

Civil Rights Act of 1964

The 24th Amendment made it so there was no tax limitation on voting. So now all blacks can fairly vote with no tax. Isn't it weird how that was allowed for so long?

Just four years after The March on Washington, Martin luter king was asassanated. This was a horrible event for blacks. Their best leader was gone and now they need to find their own was to fight for civil rights.

Martin Luther Kings assassination

The Lincoln Memorial was a statue in honor of Abraham Lincoln. This is also where the famous March on Washington and ¨I Have A Dream¨ speech was made. Makes sense why they chose there because Lincoln was the president who made slaves free.

Lincoln Momorial

Martin Luther King was an awesome leader. He was brave, confident, and able to speak his mind. He did it all without using violence.

Dunbar High School was an all- black school. It had lower education but, its staff bonded well with the students. Wouldn't it be unfair for the teachers if all their jobs where lost?
