Kemi Mai is a 19 year old self-taught digital illustrator and designer, based in the Manchester. She began painting digitally 3 years ago by chance, and built upon her skill every day since then. Her main subject matter is women and has deep insight into human emotion, which she conveys through colour, lighting and pose.

Visual Elements

Most of her pieces consist of distinct, simple, sketch-like lines that compose a girl's face. This contrasts with the realistic sections as there are no visible, clear lines.

The empty blue backgrounds completely contrast with the hyper realistic sections of the eyes and nose. This contrast draws the viewer towards the focal point of the eyes where emotion is being the most evidently shown.

Throughout her pieces, Mai creates a very smooth, blended texture to replicate that of real skin, by using digital blending tools.
