What is safeguarding?
Safeguarding is protecting peoples health, wellbeing, human rights and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect.
safeguarding protects:
- Physical abuse: Intentional bodily injury.
- Emotional abuse: Verbal behavior that are meant to control, isolate or frighten you.
- sexual abuse and neglect: inappropriate sexual behavior.
- Bullying: Repetitive, intentional hurting of a person or group by another person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power.
- Grooming: It's when a person builds a relationship with a child, young person or an adult who's at risk so they can abuse them and manipulate them into doing things.
- Harrassment: Repeated behavior towards a person that causes mental or emotional suffering.
- Discrimination: Unfair treatment of people and groups based on characteristics such as race, gender, age, or sexual orientation.
- Forced marriage: Where one or both dont or can't concent to the marriage and pressure or abuse is used to force them into marriage.
- Financial abuse: Mistreatment of someone in terms of their money.
What is protection?
Action taken to protect specific individuals who are vulnerable or at risk of harm.
Examples of protection:

- Confidentiality: Confidentiality in health and social care is the practice of keeping the personal and intimate information of patients and clients private.
- First aid: Inmediate care a sick or injured person gets.
