The adventure ofe the Dancing Men
The story begins with Hilton Cubitt telling Sherlock Holmes about a mysterious problem. Cubitt married Elsie Patrick, an American woman with a dark past who receives threatening messages formed by stick figures. Holmes cracks the messages' code and suspects that the Cubitts are in danger. When Holmes arrives at Ridling Thorpe Manor, he finds Hilton Cubitt dead and Elsie injured. Initially, the police suspect a murder-suicide, but Holmes thinks there was a third person. Holmes tricks another American involved, Abe Slaney, into arrest. Slaney admits that he had been engaged to Elsie and that he had come to England to take her back. During an argument with Cubitt, a fight breaks out in which Cubitt dies. Slaney is arrested, and Elsie dedicates her life to helping the poor and managing Cubitt's estate.

Silver Blaze
Holmes investigates the disappearance of Silver Blaze, a racehorse, and the murder of his trainer, John Straker. He and Watson visit Dartmoor, where they discover suspicious clues, including opium in the meat and a mysterious man in the stable. The police suspect Fitzroy Simpson, but Holmes believes there is more to the case. Holmes deduces that Silver Blaze is in Mapleton's stables and manipulates Silas Brown into finding him. During a horse race, they discover Silver Blaze and eliminate Simpson as a suspect. Holmes concludes that Straker had a double life, manipulated the horse, and died accidentally. The story ends with Colonel Ross thanking Holmes.
