First Black baseball player to play in the American major leagues during the 20th century. On April 15, 1947, Robinson broke the decades-old “color line” of Major League Baseball when he appeared on the field for the National League Brooklyn Dodgers. He played as an infielder and outfielder for the Dodgers from 1947 through 1956.
Jackie Robinson has a huge platform as becoming the first African american baseball player. He shows that any a African american can have power when he became the first black vice president of a major American corporation, Robinson continued to open doors for African Americans.
“Life is not a spectator sport. If you're going to spend your whole life in the grandstand just watching what goes on, in my opinion you're wasting your life.”
Whenever Jackie broke the color barrier in the MLB, he proved that African Americans can perform in professional athletics just as well as white people.
He created opportunity for African Americans to play the sport of baseball when there was no opportunity before.
He made a life for himself when everything and everyone was against him. He knew he had to make a change and power through all the hate and adversity within the game of baseball and out of it.
