Principles of Learning
The Classroom Instruction that Works introduction details the 9 instructional strategies and relevant classroom practices that will be detailed throughout the book. They are:

Educational research is not a blunt instrument that shatters all doubt about best practice. Rather it provides general direction that must be interpreted by individual districts, schools, and teachers in terms of their unique circumstances. In short, research will never be able to identify instructional strategies that work with every student in every class. The best research can do is tell us which strategies have a good chance of working well wtih students.
In addition to the Principles of Learning
Research Based Practices
As with anything else, instructional practices should be evidence-based. Instruction that is grounded in research is more likely to reach students. Not to say that a strategy will work just because it's research based, but it gives you an indication of its impact with students.
The importance of research in our practices:
