Federalists vs Democratic Republic

Thomas Jefferson and James Madison became very wary of Alexander Hamilton's industrial vision for society and his political deal makings threatened the liberties everyone fought so hard for. Jefferson's disdain for Alexander fractured president Washigton's cabinet, one side wanting a capitalist economy and the other more concerned about threats to individual freedoms and states rights. They became the worst of enemies as well as the leaders of what would become some of the first political parties, the Federalists and Democratic Republic.

The democratic republic were southerners, who wanted the nation to remain rural staying close to the small farmers the country came from. Democratic republicans distrusted national government rule and placed their trust in the masses. Thomas Jefferson stated "The will of the majority, the natural law of every society, is the only sure guardian of the rights of men."(Shi, n.d.)
