Imagine a future in which all people have a positive connection to the environment. What would need to change? What might stay the same? Discuss people’s actions, animals and plant life, oceans, and land.

It is important for humans to understand their place in the environment, and to understand the benefits of respecting the evironment.

IPeople need to understand the negative effects of polluting the environment and its widespread impacts.

People in the South Side of Chicago have been dealing with companies dumping their waste on their part of town for years. These big companies don't care if it harms people or the environment, it is just a cheap way for them to get rid of their waste. When they do this, they not only hurt the people living in these neighborhoods, but they also eventually harm themselves. We share a planet and when they do this to cut corners, it eventually will come back to harm them too. In the Chicago Tribune, Hawthorne writes, "companies cut corners in ways that can harm people," (Hawthorne 7.) Companies think that by finding a cheap way to get rid of waste it is just going to make the problem disappear. Once these major companies producing mass amounts of waste understand their big impact on climate change and find a better solution to getting rid of their waste, the environment will start to revert back to how it was before all the pollution and smog. Companies will have a positive impact on the Earth once they learn how to dispose of their trash in a smart way.

In the short story, “He-y, Come on Ou-t!”, the author demonstrates the cause and effect of not being aware. In the story, people find a big hole- almost never-ending, caused by a natural event. Some of the curious townsfolk want to see if there is anyone in there, one young man shouts, "Hey, come on out, " without any response or echo, he then decides to pick up a pebble and throw it, (Hoshi 10.) After getting no response from the bottom of the hole, companies immediately pay the town and its people to let them dump their waste in the hole. The townsfolk and the companies eagerly agree due to the fact that they are getting paid. An old man warns them that what they are doing is only going to harm them and that they are the ones that will eventually be in danger. Towards the end of the story, a construction worker is about to take their break when they hear a voice come from the sky, "Hey, come on Out!", they look at where the voice came from and then went back to work. Next, a pebble falls from the sky and nearly skims the worker, (Hoshi 45.) We can see how the author demonstrates the cause and effect of their town here. At the start they figured by dumping all their waste out, their problems were solved, however, towards the end, they realize that ever they threw out, only came back to harm them. In order for people to have a positive connection to the environment, they would need to understand what their actions could lead to in the future. They may be able to still live their normal life without many changes, but even a few small ones, together might help benefit the earth in positive ways.

In his video titled "Working with Mother Nature," Bamberger showcases his success in rejuvenating contaminated soil in Texas. He believed that by removing all the waste, nature would naturally heal itself. After dedicating 50 years to the soil's maintenance, he finally succeeded in restoring the land to its original state, resulting in the gradual return of various plants and animals. At the beginning of the video, he explains his plan to work with Mother Nature instead of against her. He says that "I work with mother nature instead of against her" (Bamberger 2:04). By turning a wasteland back into its original form, he learned that the return of animals and other forms of life would follow. He wanted to restore the land to its pre-human state. If everyone were to follow a similar approach and help Mother Nature restore her land, it could help turn the earth back to its pre-pollution state.

It is alarming that many people still don't understand the dangers of not respecting the environment. The damage being done to the planet is becoming irreversible and it's a sad reality that we all must face. But there is hope. One solution is to educate the public on the importance of environmental conservation from a young age. This can be done through schools, community programs, and media campaigns. Another solution is to implement stricter laws and regulations to hold individuals and corporations accountable for their actions. Encouraging the use of sustainable resources and alternative energy sources is also crucial.

It's unfortunate that some people don't understand the impact they have on the environment. People keep making choices that they know could harm them and the world but they chose to do it anyway because it is the easy way out. Climate change is a result of this disregard, and it affects everyone. Whether it's severe weather conditions or the extinction of species, the effects of climate change are far-reaching. It's important for individuals to take responsibility for their actions and make conscious efforts to protect the environment. After all, the world we live in is interconnected, and what we do today will affect future generations.

Smaller countries/parts of cities often get underrepresented in discussions about climate change. This is largely because larger countries and cities tend to have more political and economic power, allowing them to exert more influence on the global stage. As a result, smaller countries and parts of cities are often left out of important discussions and decisions that could affect their ability to adapt to climate change. This can be a major problem, as smaller countries and parts of cities often bear the brunt of the impacts of climate change, such as rising sea levels, increased temperatures, and more extreme weather events. We can see an example of this close to home. In East Palo Alto, they are dealing with stress from the likelihood of the sea levels rising around them. This can be dangerous due to the fact that since EPA does not have the money or power to defend itself from dangerous and harmful weather, that means that it will not be able to protect itself from this difficult weather. Rich companies will continue to dump their waste on this poor community because they can't defend themselves. This can lead to a situation where the problem is dumped on the poorer neighborhoods, leaving them with few resources or options to address it. Ultimately, this can exacerbate the effects of climate change and make it even more difficult for smaller countries/parts of cities to cope with its impacts. To address this issue, it is important for larger countries and cities to take a more active role in supporting smaller countries/parts of cities in their efforts to adapt to climate change. This could involve providing funding, technical assistance, and other resources to help these areas build resilience and reduce their vulnerability to climate change. The supporting countries will also see a positive impact on our environment as "carbon pollution does not support national borders"(Hopkins 46).
