History
Dog surfing happens since the 20's. In the 30's in a movie titled "The Waves in Waikiki" it shows a terrier that was surfing. After this it became more famous.
What is it?
Dog surfing is a sport. It is a type of surf with trained dogs; it can be practise in surfboards, bodyboards, skimboards and windsurfing boards or to bodysurf.
Precautions to have
The dogs need protection from the fleas and ticks. They also need of a life jacket. Tutors have to be careful with the insolation and put sunscreen.
wHERE?
The sport was created in the United States of America in California and Hawaii.Almost all of the competions happen there.
WHY?
Dog surfing is practised because some dogs like the contact with the water, they love it and they feel really confortabel while being there. It can bring beneficts to the dogs like learn balance and help them geting swimming skills.
cURIOSATIES
- In 2006 the first major dog surfing competition was organaized in calefornia. The competition was the Loews Coronado Bay Resort dog competition
- Rusty was a dog that inspired many others enhtusiasts to train their pets for the surfing competition.

Ricochet
Ricochet is the most famous surfing dog and she has won a lot of contests. Ricochet is a dog that surfs for fun, but with a porpuse.She rose funds for a lot of important causes, not only for animals, but for people too. She was also the ambassor for surfers with disabilities.
