Rosa Parks
I chose Rosa Parks as a character for civil rights because her actions inspired me a lot and her story struck me a lot
Personal comment
Rosa Parks was an African-American civil rights activist from the city of Montgomery, Alabama. At that time there were segregation laws in the southern states of the United States according to which whites and blacks had to attend different schools, churches and shops. Rosa Parks had attended a school for black children. She grew up with discrimination and witnessed a lot of violence against black people. in 1957 he moved with his family to Detroit, Michigan, in the north. And he campaigned for equal rights. In 2005 Rosa Parks died at the age of 92. At his memorial service in Washington D.C. there were about 50,000 people.
Life
One day in December 1955 she thought “enough” and refused to give up his seat to a white passenger on a bus. The bus driver called the police and they arrested him.Martin Luther King Jr., a leader of the civil rights movement, learned of his arrest and organized a bus boycott in Montgomery. There were thousands of blacks in the city, and they all refused to ride the buses for more than a year, until the U.S. Supreme Court declared segregation on the buses illegal. This helped end segregation in public facilities in the United States. In 1996, President Bill Clinton awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
