AVID 6th is staying consistent with organized binders, and completing classwork. This month we are going to dive into college exploration, investigating personal interests and institutions. To bring the college experience to the students first hand the 6th graders will get the opportunity to visit Saint Cloud State University. Later this month we will also, be engaging in philosophic chairs to strengthen the student's ability to critically think and an opportunity to engage in discord. Lastly, we will look at closing out the year with some reflective writing on how AVID has helped them and possible areas of growth for them individually.

In April 8th graders continued to develop their Tutorial Skills and began a unit focusing on the importance of teamwork and how we can use our strengths to benefit those with whom we work. Collaboration being a key emphasis in AVID, we will continue throughout May to build teamwork skills and begin to start looking at future college possibilities and preferences.

AVID 9 students recently completed a career research project. Students investigated potential careers and looked into the training/education needed, projected job growth rate, salary, and job responsibilities for each career of the 3 careers they researched. Students then shared out to their peers about 1 career. The activity turned out to be a great way for our students to learn about a lot of careers! AVID 9 students are now doing a mini-unit on our Above the Line character development system and how we can apply the R Factor strategies to our day-to-day lives.

The Juniors are officially done with the ACT! It was so fun to hear kids talking about how much more prepared they were in comparison to some of their friends for the exam. The preparation is hard work, but totally worth it! One of the biggest steps of preparing for college is now completed, the next step is to find where they want to further their education! Students are just now starting to research a specific college and will put on a college fair for Middle School AVID students.
