Valentina Tereshkova
I am Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova, a retired cosmonaut, Russian politician, and engineer. My name went down in history for being the first woman to travel into space.
Who am I?
+ INFO
I was born on March 6, 1937 in Bolshoye Maslennikovo, Russia, into a very humble family. I was the daughter of a tractor-driver father and a working mother in the textile industry. Shortly after my birth, my father passed away, so I had a hard childhood.
My childhood
Before reaching twenty, I showed great interest in skydiving, so I joined the local Aeroclub. At 22 I had already made my first jump!
Innovative and passionate from a young age
Interest in being an astronaut
At 24 years old I volunteered and got accepted for the cosmonaut program, among 400 others who also applied...Part of my mission was to collect data on the reactions of the female body to the conditions of space.
THIS IS HOW i TRAINED TO GO TO SPACE...
On June 16, 1963, I was launched into space aboard Vostok 6. I orbited the Earth 48 times and spent almost three days in space on my solo mission! Now I was the worldwide famous Чайка (seagull)!!!
The first woman in space
Through my mission I became a symbol of Soviet equality and a worldwide reference for all women interested in being astronauts. Thus becoming the fearless woman-symbol who changed the facts of the planet.
Sometimes I feel so inspiring... Believe it and you'll succeed it!
So, this is my story...
